Anthony “Tony” J. Schryer, age 67, of Canaan, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Community South Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born the son of Calvin and Alice (Deitz) Schryer on June 18, 1958, in Seymour, Indiana. A 1976 graduate of Brownstown High School, Tony entered the workforce shortly after and discovered a lifelong talent in carpentry and woodworking.
If you purchased a kitchen or bathroom from Walsman’s in Batesville, there's a good chance Tony played a role in its creation. His attention to detail was unmatched, especially in installing custom cabinets and bathrooms. He was truly gifted in woodworking, crafting everything from cabinets and furniture to Christmas decorations.
Tony loved the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting—particularly deer and turkey. He was a devoted Indiana University basketball fan and followed the program closely. He also took great pride in his vehicles, especially his Jeep and Corvette, and was a proud member of The Vettes of Madison.
He was active with his son Landon’s golf team and cherished the time they spent golfing together later in life.
He is survived by his sons, Shawn Farrell and wife Angi, and Landon Schryer, his daughter, Misty McNeelan; and bonus children" Billy & Yaroslava Tingle, his brothers, Jack Schryer and wife Wendy, Richard Schryer and wife Chris, and Brian Schryer and wife Carrie; his sisters, Sheryl Rock and Alecia Franklin and husband Mike. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brittany McNeelan, Scott McNeelan, Jordon Courtney, Damian McNeelan, and Laken Farrell; and great-grandchildren, Hayden McNeelan, Stevie McNeelan, Jonah McLean, Jacob McLean, and Colt Courtney.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers Larry and Tommy Schyrer.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on October 25, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Holton Community Building.
