James "Jim" Douglas Bloemker, age 90, of Versailles, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on October 21, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late Chester W. and Dorothy (Leng) Bloemker.
After graduating from high school, Jim began his career by opening his own body shop in the Cleves area. Built from the ground up, the business was a great success. At the age of 40, seeking a slower pace and a simpler life for his family, he moved to the Versailles area. There, he founded J & J Auto Body, which quickly became a local favorite for auto repair and Goodyear tires. Once again, Jim grew a successful business from scratch before eventually selling it to pursue new interests.
A true entrepreneur, Jim ran popular food stands at the Friendship Flea Market, known for buffalo burgers, elephant ears, and rotisserie chicken. He also found success in real estate, buying and rebuilding four homes into livable residences for his family, as well as refurbishing and renting over a dozen others. He was a visionary, restorer, creator, entrepreneur, and gentleman farmer.
Jim was also active in his community. He had been a proud member of both the Versailles Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge, organizations that reflected his values of service, fellowship, and integrity.
Above all, Jim adored his family and deeply loved his wife, Wilma Jean (Winchester) Bloemker, whom he married on March 1, 1958. Together, they traveled the world and shared nearly 70 wonderful years of marriage and built a life full of love and memories.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Wilma; son Jeff Bloemker; daughters Lisa (Doug Brush) Adkinson and Lori (David) McNeelan; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carrie Bloemker and brother, Thomas Bloemker.
