Obituary

Lorraine Elva Workman, age 88, of Delaware, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Manderley Health Care. She was born on July 19, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Earl and Mable (Schutte) Lewis Wise.

Lorraine was a proud graduate of Napoleon High School, Class of 1956. She often joked that she never understood why she waited two whole weeks after graduation, but she did—and married the love of her life, Robert Eugene Workman. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2013.

Lorraine was a true Delaware community member, spending her entire life in the area she loved. She was a lifelong member of Delaware Methodist Church, where she served in every capacity and played the piano for many years. Even after moving to Manderley, her love of music continued. In recent weeks, she was found playing the piano in the community room, bringing yet another smile to those around.

Her faith and devotion to family carried over into her career. Lorraine worked for 38 years at Jac-Cen-Del School Corporation, where she ran the bookstore for many years and also tracked attendance. One of her favorite parts of the job was driving team buses to sporting events and cheering on her Eagles. She was truly a mother figure to countless students and treated every child with respect, kindness, and compassion, regardless of who they were.

After retiring in 2004, Lorraine and Bob enjoyed numerous camping trips together. She also loved spending time with her many friends, following her grandchildren's activities, and supporting her family as it grew to include great-grandchildren. If you ever visited Lorraine at home, you could be certain you would never leave on an empty stomach. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, and her constant smile brightened the lives of all who knew her.

Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Darrell) Kehrt of Plainfield and Jane Ann (Bill) Vankirk of Napoleon; grandchildren, Annette (Chad) Pindell, Jason (Mariah) Vankirk, Bridgette (Luke) Humphrey, Jeremy (Meagen) Kehrt, and Eric (Ginny) Kehrt; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, kindness, and love that will continue through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and the entire community.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Neal's Funeral Home in Osgood. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial following at St. Maurice Cemetery in Napoleon.

Memorials may be given to the Delaware Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
