Clara Marie Wagner Obituary

Clara Marie (Hardebeck) Wagner, age 91 of Osgood passed away on Sunday September 27, 2020 at Aspen Place in Greensburg.  Clara Marie was born on September 6, 1929 in Millhousen, the daughter of the late George H. Hardebeck and Rose Mary Redelman.   She grew up along with her brothers and sisters outside of Millhousen.

She attended grade school in Millhousen before completing high school in Napoleon.  She was a proud Napoleon Bearcat Graduate Class of 1947.  After completing high school Clara Marie began her first employment working in the offices of Cummins.  This was to be short lived, in May of 1949 she would marry her forever partner Paul Wagner.  They set up home on their farm outside of Napoleon and Clara became a homemaker.

Her job duties included all aspects of the farm, from driving a tractor, gathering eggs, or even painting a barn roof.  They made a great team, they worked by side until Paul’s unexpected death in 1985.  Clara Marie continued to live on the farm for the next 30 plus years.   She was dedicated to St John Catholic Church, she devoted countless hours preparing meals for funerals and Christmas dinners.  In a span of 6 or 7 years she logged nearly 13,000 miles delivering Communion to those that couldn’t attend.  After Paul’s death she traveled from sea to shining sea, including Washington DC, Florida, Colorado, and even Alaska, but always returned to her Ripley County roots.

Clara Marie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Napoleon VFW and the St John’s lady’s society.  She enjoyed raising various flowers and tending to a large garden.  She loved to provide for others.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and family members.  She was preceded in death by husband Paul, her parents, brothers; Carl, Irvin, Maurice, Leonard, George, Eddie and Arthur Hardebeck, and sisters Geneva Tunny and Eleanor Stefanic.
