Douglas Stewart Cox

He has turned his last wrench, Douglas Stewart Cox, age 83, of Osgood passed away on Sunday August 27, 2023 at his home.  Doug was born in Pound, Virginia on January 17, 1940 the son of the late Clayford and Martha (Stirgill) Cox.

Doug was a very familiar face in Osgood, he and his wife Ruth owned and operated Doug’s Garage at the corner stoplight in town.  Doug was a true MacGyver before anyone even had heard of MacGyver.  If it ran and didn’t have a computer Doug was your guy, he was old school cool. The shop turned into a fellowship hall at night where he and his buddies would tell a few stories and make a few tales.

He was a simple man that believed in the lord and deeply loved his family.  He and Ruth enjoyed going out to eat at various restaurants. Doug was a soft giver, and truly thought of others.  He would repair a car for someone in need and even was known to buy the parts out of his own pocket to make sure the customer was taken care of.  He was rarely found without a Pepsi, Bic Lighter, a pack of Pall Malls, or his black work shoes on.

He will be dearly missed by wife of 56 years Ruth, sons; Douglas, Weldon, Anthony, Clayford, and Jerry Cox, daughters Mary Cox and Barbara (Willard) Baluyot, sisters Frankie (Dwayne) Short and Margie (George) Stidham, and grandchildren; Lance Cox, Callie Russell, Kaylynn Baluyot, Alexxis Baluyot, Gabby Baluyot, Peyton Cox and Jake Cox, and great granddaughter Nellie Cox.  He was preceded in death by his parents Clayford and Martha, and brother Paul.

Visitation will be held on Thursday August 31, 2023 from 12-2 pm. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.  Funeral services will be held at 2 pm., with burial following at Greendale Cemetery in Osgood.
