Gertrude Eleanor (nee Bouchonnet) Downing

Gertrude “Trudy/Toots” Downing (nee Bouchonnet), age 89, of Milan passed away on December 15, 2020, at Ripley Crossing.  She was born on June 9, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Delaney) Bouchonnet.

Following high school, she began her career with AT&T, where she worked her way up to an engineer assistant. In 1969 she transferred to the San Diego office.  She spent approximately 30 years living and working in Southern California.  Upon retirement her and husband Richard, along with their beloved dogs Snoopy and Puff, moved to Ogden, Utah, from where they were able to travel to Montana, Idaho, and South Dakota. After three years, they returned to Cincinnati to live closer to family.  When Richard passed in 2010, Trudy moved to Milan, Indiana, where she lived her last ten years.

She is survived by nieces: Sharon (Gerry) Volle of Harrison, OH, Janie (Bill) Hinkle of Harrison, OH, Lois (Gary) Schrott of Osgood and Lynda (Jon) Coffman of La Mesa, CA; nephews Robert (Teresa)  of Franklin, North Carolina, James and Patricia Bouchonnet of San Diego, CA, and David (Tracey) of San Diego, CA; along with numerous great niece and nephews.  She was preceded in death by husband Richard, her parents, brothers Charles and Robert, and sister Dorothy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday December 19, 2020 from 11 am.-12 pm. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.  Funeral services will be held at 12 pm. also at Neal’s Funeral Home.  Memorials can be given to Doris Day Animal Foundation in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be placed at Nealsfuneralhome.net.  In accordance with local Covid-19 rules face mask will be required and social distancing will be enforced.  Funeral services will be live streamed on Neal’s Funeral Home Facebook page.
